Being Nourished And More By Barley Grass

November 17, 2011

If there can only be one grass on this planet, and man must choose which one, he should go for barley. Barley grass has a balance of all nutrients necessary for a man to survive through the years. In fact, it is said to have sustained the strength of the Roman soldiers in the centuries past just like what quinoa did for the Inca soldiers. What could be the nutrients in barley grass which makes it all possible?

Barley is a resilient grass that can endure bad conditions and extreme changes in its ecosystem in contrast to  other economically valuable grass. It is packed with so many nutrients in the right amounts that foster well being and health to those who take them. As unhulled whole grains, barley is top in terms of the kind and quantity of nutrients that it contains. Meanwhile, the leaves (especially of a young grass about a foot tall)  teems with unbelievable nutrients – amino acids, proteins, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and chlorophyll. This is the age when a barley grass is at its peak in terms of nutrition because the grass can take up anything and its system can assimilate very efficiently. This is when barley is at its best for human consumption.

Barley boasts of its nutrients that hold calcium claimed to be 11 times more than milk, iron that is almost 5 times than that of spinach and vitamin C that is nearly 7 times greater than an orange. As if these aren’t still adequate, barley still contain many other nutrients like loads of antioxidants Vitamin folic acid, panthothenic acid. manganese, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, copper , inc and  B-1, B-2, B-6.

Among its other nutritional component is a-glucan. Such is a fiber that is good against cholesterol. The bran in the cereal or grain can also offer protection against cancer. It is also a rich source of chlorophyll. Barley’s goodness is usually administered in the form of a juice. Commercial supplements that are in powder form pass through spray-dry method. This process captures the best out of dried barley.

If there is but one grass only in this world, let it be barley grass for a healthy generation.
