Chicago is one of my favorite cities in the world to dine out in. About a year ago, I realized I was very gluten-sensitive, so I now avoid gluten while eating. Luckily for me, Chicago is so accommodating to gluten-free eaters like me, so it is a real treat to hunt for great gluten-free food.
One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago is the Chicago Diner on Halsted in Lakeview. It is a vegan restaurant full of wonderful, tasty, unique dishes. They have a special menu telling you which items are gluten-free and which aren’t. I have never had a bad meal there, and some of my favorite items are the tofu scramble, arepas, and GF breakfast sandwich.
Another great restaurant with a gluten-free menu is Wilde Bar and Grill, also in Lakeview. They have all your traditional bar food. I love getting the cheeseburger with the gluten-free bun, or the gluten-free mac and cheese. There is something for everyone at this cute little place, whether you are on a gluten free diet or not.
My favorite gluten-free pizza in the city has to be Marcello’s Father and Son in Lincoln Park (and other locations). They have a variety of thin crust and deep dish pizzas available, and they honestly have all been great in my experience. My girlfriend doesn’t eat dairy, so she loves getting the BBQ chicken gluten-free pizza without cheese. If you are in the area, make sure to try it out.
Those are my favorite spots in the city to eat delicious gluten-free food. My girlfriend lives in the city, so I am up there all the time and it gives me a chance to try so many different restaurants. I currently live in Springfield, Illinois, and the amount of gluten-free options in Chicago compared to my city are just amazing. I would be amazed if there are more than 10 restaurants in Springfield with gluten free menus; in Chicago, you can find them on every corner.
