Everyone starts as a beginner. In guitar playing, you should note that all the legends have begun as beginners as well. So if you are starting out and seem to find a lot of difficulties in learning the instrument, then remember that everyone has gone through this stage. Here are some tips that I have tried and worked for me when I was a beginner. You can browse through how to play guitar for beginners and pick the ones you can make use of.
Learning chords
Learning guitar chords is a daunting task especially if you are on the initial phase. You should know that there are beginner guitar chords to learn first to make the process a lot easier. These “easy chords” are your major C, G, D, E, and A. You only need three fingers to form them. They also make up half of the C major scale notes, which mean you can play several songs with these chords already. A technique I’ve used to learn chords efficiently was to play simple songs before actually learning other sets of chords. Just with the chords C, G, D, E you can already sing songs such as “living on a jet plane” by John Denver. There are many songs like these and believe me once you play a song, you’ll enjoy it and make the process a lot smoother.
Learning scales
Scales are one of the best lessons to learn early. I could just imagine learning musical scales earlier in my guitar playing years. After learning it, which was just recently, I’ve seen much difference in my playing. I could easily create songs by not going out of tune. Likewise, I could easily get the chords out of records, allowing me to easily cover songs.
With guitar scales, playing lead has become second nature to me. Hopefully, you get my point that you can also do this. Just start with the simple Major scale. You can have the C Major, which is actually the “do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do” that we commonly hear. If you get to play this scale on your guitar, you can then easily work through the C major chords and do runs for lead. The scale figure goes all the same through various keys, so if you start with C major scale on the 8th fret of lower e string, you can get the G major scale on the 3rd fret of the same string. This lets you transpose the scales easily throughout the fret board.
Learning with a friend
A friend can become a big help in learning guitar. Two beginners make up a good team. You can boost a good kind of rivalry with your friend and promote healthy challenges. This way you’ll stay motivated to go through lessons. You also have someone to show off your skills with, as well as the things you’ve recently learned. I am a product of this and I’m proud to say that it helped me a lot.
Learning guitar with patience
This is probably the most important thing beginner guitarist should have – patience. Without this quality you’ll easily be discouraged. People who expect results right there and then don’t appreciate the process of learning the instrument. Being patient, however, gets you to see why you need to take steps and value time to get good results. Stay patient and be consistent with your guitar lessons and you will surely benefit from it.
Those are the simple tips I think will greatly help starting guitarists. One last tip, “Don’t give up easily, you might just be the next guitar legend!” Hope this little guitar for beginners tips work for you! Good luck!
