Is Your Household Ready For A Solar Power System?

December 2, 2011

Since the beginning of time, sun has been available, and it will always be there. As a result of the high electricity bills, there is increasing interest in sustainable resources and alternative sources of energy. Thousands of individuals around the world have decided to use solar energy. With the constant improvements in technology and price, more and more households are using solar energy. With only a few solar arrays, and even a small amount of sunlight, you can get plenty of energy for your home.

One problem is that a lot of houses are not built to take full advantage of sunshine. More efficient designs nowadays, however, have made it simpler to create electric power without requiring a lot of sunlight. Today’s solar panel systems are constructed at a steeper angle, which allows for better generation of electrical energy, even when the home faces in the wrong direction. There is a rail system setup in many solar power kits which allow the panels to be placed to receive the maximum amount of sunshine. In addition, the design is set up for easy expansion and growth at a later time.

Before setting up a solar panel system, you will need to know your electricity requirements. Once you know how much electricity your family uses, you will know what size you need to have. Depending on your abilities and resources, start small, and make room to expand at a later time. Once installed, you can expect to see a drop by as much as 80% in your power bill within 12 months. You can start out with a system that supplies power to the exterior lights then little by little have it setup to power the electricity in your home.

The inverter or electricity converters is the most essential thing to consider when you are installing your system. Because the inverter will be converting the DC into AC, you have to ensure that it is the correct size. If the size you select is wrong, then your solar power system will not work. Even if you start out small, getting a big inverter will allow for expansion later. The inverter has to be connected by a licensed electrician, because electricity is dangerous, and you will need one to pass inspections. The riskiest part of installing it is correctly connecting your solar energy system to your electrical system. Don’t do this yourself.

Now is the perfect time to have solar power for your home since state and federal governments are providing incentives. Helping to stay clean and efficient plus doing it without much money should be incentive enough to set up a solar power system. This is a great start to living green.
