Manic Depression Signs You Need to Know

Manic depression may also be called bipolar disorder. It refers to mood swings or extreme changes in disposition which is reflected in people’s behavior. The mood ranges from overly high or manic to overly low or depressive. This is a serious mental disorder which requires immediate medical attention. Manic depressive or bipolar disorder are best gauged with the manifestation of some manic depression signs.

There are many ways to tell manic depression signs which can point to presence of their mental state. Not every sign and symptom, though, are persist in every patient with manic depression. Even the degree or severity of the signs may be variable. It rises above gender, race, ethnicity, social class and age but is known to frequently start towards late teenage years.

The manic depression signs and symptoms can be categorized into manic, depressive or mixed bipolar episodes. The manic episode manifests about three or more of the symptoms exhibited daily for a week or so. Five or more of the signs and symptoms observed throughout the day for two weeks or more, the episode is categorized as depressive. Conversely, both signs are exhibited by those called as mixed bipolar. A bipolar is expected to show conflicting behavior like feeling elated, but also discouraged. This is such a confusing feeling.

Some of the manic depression signs and symptoms which may be manifested by a bipolar are as follows:

1. Extreme happiness or elation
2. Wakefulness or sleep deprivation
3. Active thoughts
4. Increased energy
5. Sluggish attention span and cognitive functions
6. Out of the ordinary behavior
7. Uncontrolled and incessant talking
8. Bad temper
9. Heightened promiscuity and immorality
10. Narcissistic

Manic depression is generally caused by some changes in life which lead to ambiguous feelings which are hard to understand. It can be attributed to childbirth, an accident or a loss of a loved one. It may also be triggered by sleep deprivation or substance abuse. People with manic depression signs can always get treatment and remain hopeful. However, there are people who suffer without being understood, thus, end up in a worse way.
