I love Stevia. I have been using this plant for so long that I can not imagine my life without it. It is an absolute saver for anyone who wish to sweeten his foods or drink but does not want to spike up his blood sugar levels, which makes Stevia the absolutely perfect choice for diabetics.
I started using this plant in my military service. I started working out and get into shape and read a lot about the science behind exercise and nutrition. I did not want any sucrose to get inside my body, and started using Stevia immediately after reading about it in a local newspaper in Israel.
When I made my protein shakes, Stevia was the default choice for sweetening it, as I was making homemade (basemade, more precisely..!) shakes from egg whites. The taste is way too bland for me, so I needed some kind of a sweetener. Stevia did a perfect job, especially in my cutting periods, where I wanted to consume as little sugar as possible to maximize fat loss.
I still recommend anyone to use it. Seriously, there is no reason, for any kind of person, to prefer sugar over this plant. It is healthier, zero-caloried, does not cause any sugar spikes, contains some nutrients, and is even more tastier (does not become too bitter on large amounts, like sugar).
If you consider getting Stevia, I recommend growing it in your own garden. It is a very elegant and easy to get this leaf into your diet. No Stevia side effects are known to science literature, and I have looked really hard to find something. You might find some warnings from the sugar companies (of course), but nothing really reasonable. Enjoy this plant as much as you can, it is really a fascinating addition to any diet, in my opinion.
