Many people dream of becoming a professional actor. Whether it is on the great stage of Broadway, or in films, or on television, the art of acting is appealing to many people. You need to know that there is both learned skill as well as internal talent needed in order to do well in acting.
The big question for anyone interested in this field is ‘how to become a actor?’. The answer to this is not easy, because everyone takes a different path. A good actor knows that there are three keys to his success: always be learning/fine-tuning skills, always be auditioning, and network.
You can learn by taking classes at a college or conservatory, taking workshops with professionals, or taking one on one classes. If you choose to go to a college, you will end up with a degree, this can range from a AA, AFA, BA, BFA, MA, or MFA, depending on your prior levels of education and how long you wish to attend school for. A conservatory generally does not give you a degree, but instead gives you a completion certificate. Workshops can be great places to lean specific techniques and to meet people in the industry. One on one classes are great to home specific skills, like auditioning.
Anyone who wishes to make it big in acting should never stop auditioning. Shows, films and TV shows don’t last forever (unless they are Phantom of the Opera or The Simpsons, of course), so even once you have a job, you need to keep you name and face out there, always looking for the next gig. This is the only way to make a living out of this, is to always be searching, always be auditioning. When you are unemployed, it is important to audition for every part that you are a fit for, and that you can do.
