I feel like raincoats are one of the more misunderstood clothing items out there. As a young kid, my mom used to dress me up in this ugly bright red raincoat whenever there was a chance of rain, and send me off to school. I remember I loved the raincoat when I was about five, but a couple years later absolutely hated it. Of course, my mother didn’t care, she just wanted me to stay dry so I had to still wear it. I vowed to never wear a raincoat again when I could make my own clothing decisions.
Fast forward about 15 years to when I was twenty-three years old, and I still didn’t own a raincoat. I was getting fed up with getting caught in the rain though, and I hated carrying around an umbrella, I would always lose umbrellas, so I hadn’t bought one for a while. After noticing that more and more stylish men I know were sporting raincoats to work, I decided to look into it a little deeper. I went to my local mall and checked out the raincoat supply. After being impressed with what I saw, I talked with the employees for a while and tried some of them on. I couldn’t believe it, but I finally decided to buy a raincoat after all those years.
I think my first raincoat was a Hugo Boss, and I loved it. I wore it every time there was even a slight chance of rain. The raincoats these days are classy and stylish; nothing like those eyesores from my child. They honestly don’t even look that different from a normal coat – I wear mine to work, out to dinner, to the mall, and everything in between. I really wish I had been wearing them all throughout college as well, because they would have really saved me from all those downpours on the way home from class.
