The LEGO Batman’s Buggy: The Escape of Mr. Freeze 7884

November 7, 2011

The Batman’s Buggy: The Escape of Mr. Freeze LEGO 7884 was released in 2008. It has only 76 pieces, but at the same time is rated for ages 5 to 10. There are 2 cool mini figures; a grey and black Batman, and the fabulous Mr. Freeze in blue with his ice white head. It is right in there with the smallest of the Batman sets; with only the 2 mini figures and their vehicles, and one accessory, Mr. Freeze’s blue jewels.

The vehicles in 7884 are really very simple. Batman’s Buggy actually sort of resembles a go kart, which is not very Batman. It does have a nice grappling hook in the front. The color scheme of the buggy could be a little more Batman black and a little less Robin yellow. It does have a nice big Batwing and huge red flames for the exhaust. Mr. Freeze’s buggy is really small. The hose on the freeze gun is too large and sticks out too far. He does have a clear jewel case on the back for one of the blue gems and the other goes with the freeze gun.

Some older collectors were dissatisfied with both the size and complexity of the set. Then again when it was released it sold for $10, making this a very inexpensive way to get Mr. Freeze, so the rest could be considered extras. The LEGO Batman set, 7884 is not at all inspiring to the imagination of a teen or adult; most of the other Batman sets appeal to all ages and offer enough diversity to keep you interested. You have to remember what ages it is rated for, what do you expect? There’s actually quite a lot to inspire a child that age. Of course, now it might be a totally different situation since the price has risen to $199 and better. At $10 it was a great value in Lego Batman toys, but at the current going rate, maybe not so much. It really all depends on how bad you want to collect all the Batman Legos, especially now that they have all been discontinued. Ah, the joys of collecting!
