Things to Do after Retiring: Fun Tips for Able-Bodied Baby Boomers

October 21, 2011

1.) Walk: This is, without a doubt, the best way for you to keep the heart pumping strongly and the muscles functioning optimally. Go outside and walk all around the neighborhood for fifteen to twenty minutes each and every day. You can also purchase a pedometer and aim to increase the number of steps that you do up until you achieve ten-thousand steps per day. If you can talk your partner into walking with you, then the activity would definitely be more enjoyable.

2.) Try Yoga: The practice of yoga is an excellent way for you to stretch out your entire body, keep all of the moving parts well lubricated, and receiving the healthy benefits of relaxing and exercising all at the very same time. Yoga would not be around for hundreds or even thousands of years, if its teachings are just rubbish – right?

3.) Dance: What is it that you particularly fancy? Learning a new dance move or reliving your youth dancing to your favorite samba, jive and rock & roll? Remain active and take pleasure in how alive and refreshed you feel each time you sway along to some nice beat on your radio, your CD player, or whenever you are out together with your friends.

4.) Travel: Now that you are all retired, you may have the means and, of course, all the time to spend to travel as well as visit places and cities that you have long wanted to check out. So, decide on which place to visit and plan the trip properly and make sure to wear some nice hiking shoes!

5.) Take a Challenge: Stretch yourself out and train in order to get your body fit and trim enough to be able to climb mountains, swim across small lakes or walk over glaciers. You can find different challenges for different types of activities as well as places. Choose one that you really like and just go all out for it. You are sure to feel great if you worked hard for it and then achieved it.

6.) Golf: If you fancy the sport, then retirement provides you with the opportunity to indulge yourself in it.

7.) Swim: Swimming is the perfect example of a non weight bearing workout. Take a few laps either in the swimming pool or the beach. This activity makes for a wonderful cardio workout that will improve your respiratory and circulatory health; thus making you less susceptible to serious ailments such as stroke and heart disease.
