Which Game Console Is Right For You?

January 3, 2012

Still trying to decide which game console to buy?  If you haven’t just given in and bought one of each, you might take a minute to think about the different features of each of the three major consoles – Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox, and Sony PlayStation 3.  Each system has its own pros and cons, and they each have some unique features the others don’t have. The best way to decide is to first determine what type of games you intend on playing with your system once you buy it. Whether it’s Wii vs. Xbox, or Xbox vs. PlayStation, you should take the time to compare before you buy.

For the Nintendo Wii, this system is designed more for the casual gamer or the family who plays together.  The type of games for this console include puzzle type games, some adventure games, but mostly fun, cartoonish games that appeal to all ages.  Since the Wii console lacks the high definition graphics that many adult and mature games require, developers don’t build those for the Wii. You’ll see mostly games for either young or preteen children, or “party” type games that adults can play as a group, include Wii Sports Resort and Wii Play. Nintendo also makes many of its top arcade games for the Wii.

For the Xbox, the high definition graphics and its history as a favorite of serious gamers makes this one of the top two choices for serious players.  Games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare series, Halo, and other first person shooter and action games are the games of choice. Xbox has high definition  graphics and an engine that can meet the demand of gamers who need powerful response times.  IN addition, with the Xbox Live Membership, gamers can plan multi-player online games against other players from around the world. Xbox took a page from Wii and build the Kinect, it’s latest add on, to bring motion-sensitive play to their console as well.

Finally the PlayStation also has high definition graphics and is another favorite of many players who have been playing Sony game systems for years.  Sony also included the Blu-Ray system in the PlayStation, which is a big draw for many game system owners.  PlayStation now has a motion sensitive add on call the PlayStation Move, to allow players to control the actino with a wand like controller.

Price will be a consideration too, as the Wii is far less expensive than either Xbox or PlayStation, but competition among the three means you can often find discounts and deals on bundles which include games as well as accessories.  Once you know the level of play you’re looking for, you can choose the game system that’s right for you.
